2010 chevrolet equinox review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Redesigned for 2010. introductionthe chevrolet equinox is redesigned for 2010. That makes this the second generation of this crossover suv. Though sized more like a midsize suv, the equinox has pricing and features of a compact suv, though now with some luxury and technology amenities not expected in its price class.  the redesigned equinox is about the same size as the outgoing model. But it has different styling inside and out and two new engine choices. Thanks to direct injection, it now has more power and gets class-leading fuel economy of 32 mpg on the highway. It has similar power numbers at 264 horsepower, but it feels much less powerful than the larger v6 it replaces. It is more carlike than the pre-2010 models, with less lean in turns. It's not sporty, but it's on par with its main competitors, including the honda cr-v and toyota rav4. The ride is also quite good. We found that with either the standard 17- or available 18-inch wheels, the equinox absorbs even sharp bumps without disrupting passenger comfort.  inside, the equinox has an attractively designed interior. There are some nice amenities, including ice blue ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, a hard-drive audio system, a dual-screen rear dvd entertainment system, and a power rear liftgate. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and they have 10 inches of travel, so drivers of all sizes with fit. The useful multiflex rear seat carries over. While the last model's handling was too sloppy for many, that problem has been remedied, making the equinox a player in the entry crossover suv market.  the 2010 chevy equinox is offered in ls, 1lt, 2lt and ltz trim levels, each with front-wheel drive (2wd) or all-wheel drive (awd). The available navigation system has voice recognition and comes with a 40-gigabyte hard-drive, premium speakers and a usb port 2,145). The rear dvd entertainment system comes with a screen in the back of each front seat and the usb port 1,295).  safety equipment includes dual threshold front airbags, curtain side airbags, front side airbags, a tire-pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, hill start assist, traction control, and gm's stabilitrak electronic stability control. A rearview camera and rear park assist are optional, and we recommend them. All-wheel drive enhances stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe chevrolet equinox is a small midsize crossover suv that is priced and equipped to compete with compact suvs. The equinox uses a longer version of the theta architecture that underpins the saturn vue, but the new model is about that same size as the old one. Theta is updated from the first-generation equinox, and that's a good thing because the outgoing model didn't handle very well. The upcoming gmc terrain will use the same platform.  up front, the equinox features chevrolet's now-signature two-tier grille with gold bowtie insignia. The headlights wrap around the front fenders. Air ducts sit below the headlights and, in models so equipped, they house fog lights in chromed bezels that bisect the openings. The lower front fascia is charcoal-colored plastic and it has an air dam in the center. The ltz model and the 2lt with the chrome appearance package add metallic trim pieces to the lower portion of the air dam opening. The hood has three character lines and is shorter than the last one because chevrolet moved the base of the windshield forward three inches, creating a more slippery shape. The new equinox has a 0. 36 coefficient of drag versus the 0. 42 cd of the outgoing model.  around the sides, the equinox has pronounced fender flares and a wheels-at-the-corners stance, especially up front. The roof features wraparound side glass at the rear and tinted rear and rear side windows. All but the ls model has luggage side rails; they're charcoal on lt models and they add chrome inserts on the ltz and the 2lt with the chrome appearance package. That package also adds chrome door handles and side mirrors. Seventeen-inch aluminum wheels are standard and 18- and 19-inch wheels are available.  at the rear, the equinox has dual round taillights, a takeoff of the malibu design, and a roof spoiler. The tailgate opens upward, and a class-exclusive power, programmable tailgate is offered. Owners can program the tailgate to open to different heights so shorter drivers can reach it. Overall, the look is attractive. The ltz's additional chrome trim adds a touch of class, especially with the chromed 19-inch wheels. interiorchevrolet says the equinox's interior is inspired by the interior of the successful malibu midsize sedan. While that may be true when it comes to aesthetics, it's not true in terms of execution. Instead, like the toyota rav4 and honda cr-v that chevrolet benchmarked when developing this vehicle, the equinox has hard plastic on the entirety of the dashboard, as well as on the center console and door panels. The available ice blue ambient lighting is a delightful feature. Ls models have it on the center stack surround and in the center console cupholders. Lts add it on the instrument panel and center console, and the ltz also gets it in the door handle recesses, in the footwells and in the doors' map pockets. The speedometer and tachometer feature white numbers and black backgrounds. They are set in large pods and in between are water temperature and fuel gauges, as well as a digital trip computer readout. The base interior has a storage cubby at the top of the center stack. When the navigation system is ordered, it sits in this spot. The controls on the center stack are grouped in a tight bunch, with the radio buttons up top and the climate controls at the bottom. With the navigation system, there are 43 buttons, dials and knobs. It's a bit less confusing without the navigation system, but it's goin.

It's the best small car gm has offered in north america in decades, by a substantial margin.  launched as a 2011 model, the cruze replaces the sturdy but boring cobalt, and it's a great leap forward in technology, features and appeal. The cruze was developed jointly by gm tech centers in asia, europe and the united states to battle in the most crowded part of the passenger-car market, with excellent new competitors like the hyundai elantra and kia forte, the best volkswagen jetta in years, and perennial leaders like the honda civic, mazda 3, and toyota corolla. By the quality of materials, fit or function, it surpasses nearly all its competitors. Both the manual and automatic transmissions have six speeds, which is rare in this class. Across the line, the cruze averages some of the best epa mileage ratings among compacts. Its steering is powered by electricity to save fuel, and its sharp, with decent feel. Ride quality is outstanding, yet the car is nimble, balanced and handles exceptionally well. The chevrolet cruze might be the smoothest, quietest compact offered in the united states. Its front end mimics the volt plug-in sedan, no doubt deliberately, with a prominent chevrolet bowtie logo. The headlight housings are large, sweeping upward and around the front edges of the car.  the roofline arcs subtly from its steeply raked windshield through fast-sloping rear pillars, creating a generally sporty profile. Its wheels are pushed out to the corners of the car, with minimal overhang. No, this compact sedan doesn't break new ground or wow with its curves. But it's tidy and quite confidant looking, and the package generates a feeling of quality and solidity. Wheels range from 16-inch steel with plastic covers on the base ls to spoked 18-inch alloys with low-profile tires on the loaded ltz.  the cruze eco is a slightly different beast, because it's designed to be chevrolet's conventional-engine fuel economy leader. The differences start with 42 steps intended to trim weight, right down the size and location of welds in the body. As a result, the eco tips the scales at 3,009 pounds, or 214 pounds less than the mid-level cruze lt.  the eco also adds a host of aerodynamic tweaks, including some adapted from the volt plug-in. All-new, the ultimate towing suv. introductionthe chevy suburban has been thoroughly redesigned for 2007, which means it might be called 'all new,' although it seems odd to apply those words to something that's been around for 70 years. This is the 11th generation of the venerable suburban. And despite the fact that the current times might be less friendly to the trusty old truck than before, with vehicles of its size being demonized for causing the melting of icecaps and whatnot, the suburban is no dinosaur. And it is loved by those who need it. It's available in light-duty 1500 or heavy-duty 2500 chassis. The latest generation of its 5. 3-liter vortec engine (downsized to 325 cubic inches from 350 in the old days) has an aluminum block and makes 310 horsepower with 355 pound-feet of torque. The optional engine is a new 6. 0-liter mill, with an aluminum block and heads and variable valve timing, making 366 horsepower and 380 pound-feet.  the popular 5. 3-liter (1500, 4wd) is epa-rated at 15 city and 20 highway miles per gallon, on regular unleaded, and it can also run on ethanol); the same truck with the 6. 0-liter engine is rated at 14/18. Full length airbag curtains are optional, but front side airbags are not available.  another 6. 0-liter engine, with an iron block, comes with the 2500 models. The 2500 also adds hydroboost to the brakes, a heavier suspension with leaf springs, and 16-inch truck tires. The 2500 4wd is rated to tow 9400 pounds, while the 1500 can tow 8000.  the styling changes to the new suburban are subtle but significant, and handsome. The windshield is raked for better aerodynamics, and the chrome has been swept off the ls and lt. Inside, the dashboard has been lowered and instrument panel finally made tidy. The seats have been raised, giving a commanding view of the road with that lowered dashboard; with optional adjustable pedals, a driver of any size can achieve a comfortable and confident driving position.  the suburban can seat from six to nine passengers, depending on the seats that are chosen. There are 137. 4 cubic feet of storage behind the front seats, with the second row folded and third row removed. Behind the raised third row, there are still 45. 8 cubic feet. This (and towing) is what the vehicle is all about: passengers and cargo. However, unlike a growing number of suvs, the seats don't fold flat into the floor, unfortunate for outdoorsmen who view the cargo compartment as an occasional sleeping area. Setting a nine-foot fly rod in there without having to break it down is still a real luxury, however, and the back of the 'burb will accept other long items that are awkward to load into smaller rigs.  the all-new frame is stronger, stiffer and fully boxed (49 percent stiffer and 35 percent more resistant to twisting). The rigid new frame enabled the suspension to be redesigned, and a rack-and-pinion steering system is used, for the first time. The front track has been widened by three inches, and the rear by one inch. This suburban rides and handles much sweeter than any before it: less undulation and more precision.  considering the vehicle weighs nearly three tons (5745 pounds), the acceleration is strong, and the powerful sound of the engine under full throttle is satisfying. The new generation of this engine has an aluminum block and makes 310 horsepower with 355 pound-feet of torque. The optional 6. 0-liter engine 1095) is all aluminum with variable valve timing, making 366 horsepower and 380 pound-feet.  another 6. 0-liter engine, with an iron block, comes with the 2500 models. They all have a tow/haul mode, which reduces shifting and makes the shifts quicker, so the transmission doesn't work so hard when pulling a big load. Other options include a locking rear differential, engine block heater, transmission oil cooler, power adjustable pedals, remote starter, and audio upgrades.  safety equipment on all models includes dual frontal airbags, anti-lock disc brakes with electronic proportioning, and stabilitrak, gm's electronic stability program with anti-rollover mitigation and traction control. Full length airbag curtains with rollover detection are optional, but front side airbags are not available. It's a twin to the shorter tahoe. The mesh grille is split by a gold chevy bowtie, and the headlights are all business, nothing fancy, just good-looking function: big near-rectangles at the corners. They're halogen and do an excellent job of lighting up the road. The bumper fascia reveals a low license-plate holder sandwiched by openings for tow hooks, with small round fog lamps at the corners like single teardrops falling from the headlamp eyes. The seam between the fascia and fenders is very tight, and an indication that gm is improving its build quality.  rake has been added to the windshield, improving the aerodynamics and looks. The hood has two long bulges at its sides, extending from almost the windshield to almost the grille; chevy calls these twin bulges the power dome.  the rear liftgate is still vertical, and the rear window opens independently, with both the manual and power liftgate, which is aluminum, reducing the weight and thus the effort to raise and lower it. Split doors are not available.  the suburban lt looks clean and stylish from the side, without chrome trim. Too bad the thick five-spoke wheels are boring, costing the 'burb an opportunity to look real sharp. Seventeen-inchers are standard but 18-inchers are optional, as are 20-inchers that are too big for grown-ups and degrade the ride. interiorthe chevy suburban can seat six to nine passengers. Many other suvs can carry seven passengers without taking up so much space on the road, but the passengers are cramped (and these suvs can't ever carry nine). A motor drives the seatbacks down a.
